llms.txt
Definition
llms.txt is a proposed plain-text file at a site's root that offers AI models a curated, readable guide to the site's most important content.
The file lives at the root of a domain, like robots.txt, but serves a different purpose. Rather than controlling crawler access, llms.txt points language models to the pages and facts a site most wants understood, in a clean Markdown-style format that is easy for a model to parse.
It is an emerging community proposal, not an official standard, and support across engines is not guaranteed. It does not force a model to use the file, and it is not a ranking mechanism.
For a firm, an llms.txt file is a low-cost way to present a tidy summary of who the firm is and what it offers, alongside, not instead of, the structured data and content that carry more weight today.
